About the QAA

The Queen’s Accounting Association (QAA) is a student-run organization with a three-fold mission to educate students about the accounting profession, to present them different opportunities in the accounting field, and to support career development by connecting sponsors and students.

This year, we have implemented measures to reach out to an even greater number of students. Our new goals for this year are:

Capturing the non-traditional accounting audience

Many students perceive accounting to be audit-oriented. This is no longer true, even within the scope of the CA designation. We wish to raise awareness of the opportunities students now have to earn their accounting designation through alternative training offices held by companies such as Manulife, RBC, and Telus. In addition, we wish to invite guest speakers who have combined accounting knowledge with other fields of study, such as consulting, general management and finance. Essentially, this would raise awareness of the accounting opportunities that now exist outside the ‘typical’ accounting firms.

Involving more local and mid-sized accounting firms in QAA events

Many students feel that a career in accounting is limited to a job with one of the ‘Big 4’ firms. In reality, there are many other opportunities with small and mid-sized firms, and even with the government. This year, we plan on involving local accounting firms to expand students’ opportunities to gain very valuable, hands-on experience and knowledge in a small and personable environment.

Whether you have decided to specialize in accounting, have a general interest for it, or simply wish to learn more about the field, the QAA is here to assist you. Have a great 2011-12 year and see you at our events!
